Last year, at the age of 21, I slowly started going bald.
ㅤ
When I realized this, my world crumbled. I felt as though my life was ending.
ㅤ
What would I do now? Would anyone accept me into their lives, especially women?
ㅤ
I had been influenced by pop culture, and it showed. Many movies, comics, books, and people frequently joke about a (false) direct connection between baldness and a man's inferiority.
ㅤ
Consequently, even though in the real day-to-day world, nothing truly changes when you begin to bald, your confidence diminishes, and you begin to believe that everyone is watching and judging you. You start to feel like you have something to hide.
ㅤ
Then, it dawned on me:
ㅤ
Nobody really cares: In reality, there's nothing wrong with balding, but even if there were, nobody would care because everyone is too engrossed in their own thoughts and worries.
ㅤ
A simpler life: I now shave my head myself, eliminating the need for barber appointments, and saving both time and money. It's one less recurring event on my calendar.
ㅤ
Confidence: Once you accept, own, and embrace your new look, your confidence soars. You prove to yourself that you're unafraid to reveal yourself to the world, and that's genuinely empowering.
ㅤ
Improving other areas of my life: Balding reminded me of the connection between aging and mortality, how time gradually takes things away from us. It pushed me to enhance my physical health while I was still young.
ㅤ
A first-world problem: There I was, worrying about baldness, while others my age in my own city were fighting for their lives. I was being foolish and ungrateful. My baldness helped me realize how fortunate I am to have such trivial concerns to worry about.
ㅤ
In conclusion, my experience with balding has been a journey of self-discovery, ultimately leading me to embrace it as a part of who I am. It's a reminder that our concerns are often exaggerated and that we have the power to change our perspective on them.
